Nursing Programs Without Waiting Lists, DiscoverNursing.com:"Due to an increased interest in attending nursing programs in the United States, many schools have the desire to admit more students, but lack faculty or other resources. Thus, they often put prospective students on a waiting list."

Nursing Students with Disabilities, Change the Course, Donna Carol Maheady, Ed.D., C.P.N.P., RN:"Proud receipent of the 2004 American Journal of Nursing Book of the Year Award in the Nursing Education & Continuing Education Category. We learn by experience, both personally and systemically. Donna Carol Maheady has used her personal experience as a nursing educator teaching nursing students with disabilities, and as a parent of a child with significant disabilities, to write "Nursing Students with Disabilities: Change the Course". We all have the opportunity to learn from her experiences. Nursing Students with Disabilities charts the course of eight nursing students who have disabilities as they complete arduous nursing training. The students' stories, by themselves, are inspirational and educational. By describing their own challenges of deafness, Crohn's Disease, physical disabilities, etc., the students show us that where there is a will there is a way."

Australia: Rejected as nurse for bad writing:"STEPHANIE Goldner admits her handwriting is messy - but never thought it could cost her a job. Ms Goldner, from Avalon on Sydney's Northern Beaches, is reeling from failing an entrance exam to become an enrolled nurse - because her handwriting was deemed not up to scratch. "They said my arguments were well-developed, I had answered the questions well but my handwriting was too messy," the 23-year-old said yesterday. "He [an exam assessor] said, 'I can see why they failed you. It wasn't for your content, your writing's pretty hard to read'."

Arizona: Nursing grads face burnout as business shifts by Beth Cochran:"Twenty-five years ago, Donald Daien graduated summa cum laude from ASU's nursing college. With diploma in hand, the idealistic student ventured into the world to comfort sick people. "People are most important to me so I decided to do something to help others...and chose nursing because it afforded the most direct and continuous patient contact," Daien said. "I felt that I could really make a difference as a nurse." At first things went well. Daien worked at Arizona State Hospital, Phoenix Camelback Hospital, Maricopa Medical Center and St. Luke's Hospital, among others."

Drug Use As A Nursing Student:"Hi all. I am a male nursing student in my 2nd semester of school. I have 3 more after this and will take the boards next fall. I'm really excited about all of the possibilities and most of all (not to sound too cliche)about the opportunities to change lives that I'll have. I do have a question for current RN's. I occasionally smoke small amounts of marijuana. I don't have remorse or shame because I know it's a personal choice that I let affect noone around me. I only do it alone or with very close friends. I don't sell it or try to get anyone else to try it." http://www.nursingdiscussions.com/drug

RN student-I need a word of Hope:"I'm in an ADN-RN program, second semester. Though I've always done well on tests before, I'm now failing Med-Surg. I've taken 3 tests (five to go before end of semester). I missed passing by 8 points on the first test, two points on the second test, and 10 points on the third. I have to get at least an 85 on subsequent exams in order to pass this course and advance with my class."

What do I buy? Nursingdiscussion.com:"Hello everyone! I am trying to get everything ready for my clinicals in August. I thought it would be easier to buy it as the Summer goes on rather than buy it all at once. I have my uniforms now and I am on to shoes. I am leaning towards the Nursemates Seneca shoe. The requirement is that the shoes are closed toe, closed heel and white leather. I know I am going to be on my feet a lot and I thought that this would be a good place to ask what works and what doesn't."

Kaplan's FREE NCLEX practice lab:"The NCLEX is a standardized test and by definition, standardized tests have "standard" ways of approaching questions and tested content. So to carry the argument a step further, there are "standard" ways of successfully approaching standardized tests. That's what Kaplan does. In the Practice Lab, you can acquaint yourself with the key concepts and content as tested on the exam—and get a clear understanding of what you're up against. Try some sample questions, access some of Kaplan's exclusive strategies, find out how beat test stress, and more. So go on, test yourself...see how you stack up against the NCLEX."

Imagine the amount of nursing information you must learn to earn the RN degree you desire. it will become your life. Luckily there are many online nursing resources that will help you digest and understand the information taught by those nurses turned instructors. The problem is that this information can be hard to find because of the enormous amount of nursing web sites available. That's why we make RN school easier by pulling together the best nursing student resources into a convenient location. Here you will find original content as well as excellent links to other sites that will help you on your way to becoming a registered nurse."

Electrolyte Imbalance: A Matter of Equilibrium Barbra Williams Cosentino, RN, CSW, NursingSpectrum.com:"Crucial electrolytes include sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride, bicarbonate, and phosphate. Some of the most common and easily treated electrolyte imbalances are the result of fluid volume deficit or excesses, says Cheer. Intravascular fluid volume deficit (hypovolemia) occurs as a result of inadequate fluid intake or an increased output caused by vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, and fluid shifts, such as those seen in burn patients."

Fluid and Electrolyte Abnormalities, Renal Dysfunction, An Overview of Critical Care, University of Pennsylvania:"The serum sodium is the major influence on extracellular fluid volume. There are a number of other important ions in the body: potassium, magnesium and phosphate are mostly intracellular cations, and chloride exists in the extracellular space, at electrochemical equilibrium with sodium. An alteration in this ratio can have significant effects on acid base balance – chloride depletion causes alkalosis, chloride excess causes acidosis."
