Cardiac intensive care - Unit 4700, Loma Linda University Medical Center, California:"This unit is a 25-bed unit that provides nursing care for adult and elderly patients requiring intensive care. The patient diagnoses are usually cardiac in origin. Nurses are skilled and competent to care for the patients with conditions such as acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina, cardiogenic shock, hypertensive crisis, malignant dysrhythmias, decompensated cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure, cardiac transplant with infection or rejection episode, hemodynamic instability, and coronary artery stenosis requiring invasive interventional procedures. Nursing care is focused to meet the psychological, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients. Nurses are highly trained to manage intensive hemodynamic monitoring equipment and to provide expertise in using supportive mechanical, i.e., IABP." ******************************************************
Intensive Cardiac Care (ICC), University of California, San Francisco:"The Intensive Cardiac Care (ICC) unit provides comprehensive hospital care for adults who are critically ill. Patients in this 16-bed unit are primarily treated for cardiac disorders, cardiothoracic (heart-chest) surgery, or vascular (blood vessel) surgery. Other patients who have life-threatening medical or surgical conditions may also receive care in the ICC." ******************************************************
Cardiopulmonary nursing unit serves cardiac patients' special needs. Central Maine Medical Center:"The recovery phase for anyone who has had a heart attack or other cardiac event may involve a hospital stay. The quality of nursing care during this inpatient phase of the recuperative process is an important factor in the patient's recovery. Nursing care is an essential component of any cardiac care program. If a cardiac patient requires hospitalization, the individual should be cared for by a nursing staff that is knowledgeable and experienced in cardiac care. At CMMC this nursing staff works on the Cardiopulmonary Unit." ******************************************************
Hopkins To Open New Cardiac Care Unit, Maryland:"Under a new continuity-of-care approach, patients will have the same physicians and nurses throughout their stay, says Karen Haller, director of nursing.
"It will be more efficient and patients will feel more at ease with fewer faces coming and going," adds Nancy Sullivan, chief nurse in the CCU. "This kind of patient-centered care improves both healing and comfort."
With a new "call" system, nurses can be paged via an electronic badge on their uniforms rather than overhead pages, saving time and reducing noise. Wider halls, a larger nursing station and a larger receptionist's area facilitate movement." ******************************************************
Mobile Cardiac Care Unit
MCCU, Mississippi Baptist Health Systems, Inc.:"Staffed with an experienced, highly skilled team, the MCCU places the latest heart care technology within reach 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The transport team includes physicians, nurses and therapists trained in critical care, and with a knowledge of the mobile transport system." ******************************************************
Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania: Cardiac Intensive Care Unit:"Children's Hospital's 20-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) provides services for neonates, infants, children and young adults with acquired or congenital heart disease, end-stage cardiopulmonary failure, thoracic organ transplantation and other intensive care services (e.g. recovery from non-cardiac surgery for patients with coexisting congenital heart disease)." ******************************************************
JoeFil's Intensive Care Unit:"Hello and welcome to the ICU! I hope you will enjoy your visit here and that my choice of links will help you do just that.............I have included a variety of resources; the majority of sites are health related having to do with cardiovascular illness and critical care medicine and nursing (all of this is not really surprising since I am a critical care nurse specialist working with cardiac patients!)." ******************************************************
Elective Handbook
Internal Medicine:Cardiac Care Unit:"Students will function as sub-interns while on a four-week rotation. Their primary responsibility will be to admit patients to the Cardiology Service and manage their care under the direct supervision of a senior medical resident, cardiology fellow and attending physician. During this time period, students will be expected to work up and present assigned patients on daily rounds with the house staff and faculty. They will also be expected to stay in-house with the senior resident and intern every fourth night, as arranged at the start of the elective. In addition, each student should acquire experience in ECG interpretation as well as observing the techniques of performing and interpreting echocardiograms, Holter monitors, stress tests and the placement of central venous and Swan-Ganz catheters. At least one cardiac catheterization, coronary angioplasty and electrophysiology study should also be observed." ****************************************************** ****************************************************** ******************************************************

Nurses' Station:"The idea for the Nurses' Station Catalog was conceived in 1989. After searching the marketplace in response to customer inquiries, it became obvious that there were no catalogs of this type serving the nursing profession. To be sure, there were several catalogs offering nurse's uniforms and a smattering of professional items. But there weren't any catalogs at the time offering a range of gifts, clothing, professional items, name badges, shoes and scrubs for nurses. It took two years of hard work to gather samples and put a together a catalog of the most unique and high-quality items for nurses."
