P. K. Scheerle, RN, American Nursing Services:"American Nursing Services, Inc. (ANS), a nurse owned and operated supplemental staffing and home care agency, is a remarkable success story. Chartered in February of 1982 and headquartered in Metairie, a part of the greater New Orleans Metropolitan area, ANS is one of the most dynamic and progressive nursing service organizations. P.K. Scheerle, RN, a registered nurse with a clinical background in Pediatric Intensive Care, as well as nursing administration, founded ANS and is committed to quality and excellence. P.K.'s motivation is to serve the community with nurses who first and foremost love being nurses. ANS provides nurses, therapists and certified nursing assistants in the home and hospital with compassion and professionalism." ******************************************************
Virtual Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, The Laura P and Leland K Whittier: Childrens Critical Care Medicine has reached a crucial point in its history. Following two decades of progress, wide variability remains in the quality of critical care practiced throughout this country. This arises from the isolated and urgent nature of critical care practice. ****************************************************** Pediatric Intensive Care Units by State: Missouri State Pediatric Intensive Care Units:
Pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) at Children's Hospital: Critically ill and injured children are cared for in our PICU, where specialty physician care is combined with the expertise of mid-Missouri's only board-certified pediatric intensivist, Joseph D. Tobias, MD. The staff is dedicated to pediatric critical care and can provide a full range of services including ventilatory support, invasive and noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring in a high-tech, yet family-centered environment. West Virginia State Pediatric Intensive Care Units:
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Cabell Huntington Hospital Cabell Huntington Hospital meets the special needs of seriously ill children with its ten-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. One of only three in West Virginia, the unit is designed for young people from infancy to age 16 ho need critical care services. Two pediatric intensivists, pediatric subspecialists, nurses specially trained in pediatric/critical care and therapists stress family involvement with the treatment they provide. Special attention also is given to the emotional and developmental needs of these young patients. Around-the-clock visitation and special emotional support are available for families. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Cabell Huntington Hospital also has four beds with step-down capabilities and a new state-of-the-art computer monitoring system. Dr. Eduardo Pino and Dr. Mike Waldeck work closely with specialists in cardiology, rehabilitation, oncology and infectious diseases and with neurosurgeons and otolaryngologists to provide the best care possible for their patients. ****************************************************** Associations:
European Society of Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care (ESPNIC): In September 1987 150 PICU nurses met for the first time in Paris for a symposium. A precedent was set for further initiative and the 'ESPIC Nursing Working Group' was founded. Initially the nurses were associated, individual members of the European Society of Paediatric Intensive Care (ESPIC). In 1994 the statutes of ESPIC were modified and the society was grouped into a medical and nursing branch. To support a continuous progress at all parts of paediatric and neonatal intensive care in Europe, ESPIC Medical and ESPIC Nursing are working closely together under the roof of ESPIC. In 1998 ESPIC changed the name into ESPNIC (European Society Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care) to promote neonatal intensive care that has been done since the beginning of the society. Nurses' Station:"The idea for the Nurses' Station Catalog was conceived in 1989. After searching the marketplace in response to customer inquiries, it became obvious that there were no catalogs of this type serving the nursing profession. To be sure, there were several catalogs offering nurse's uniforms and a smattering of professional items. But there weren't any catalogs at the time offering a range of gifts, clothing, professional items, name badges, shoes and scrubs for nurses. It took two years of hard work to gather samples and put a together a catalog of the most unique and high-quality items for nurses."
